CURRENT TOSSD HEADLINING INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
We would greatly appreciate your talents!

ABOUT the THEATRE ORGAN SOCIETY of SAN DIEGO
The Theatre Organ Society of San Diego (TOSSD) is a local chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS), and is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to the preservation of the Theatre Pipe Organ - and to further the use, understanding and appreciation of this unique musical genre. We truly believe that the theatre pipe organ deserves a permanent place in American musical culture, and it is our collective mission that we do our part to preserve this musical icon for future generations of musicians, historians and enthusiasts.
It's our goal to further our mission, but we need YOUR help!
We are looking for a highly creative and energetic individual who can help us make this happen ... are YOU possibly this person?
About our Internship Opportunity
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for a specific individual who will work with key TOSSD management to help promote, advertise and publicize our chapter's events and overall mission to the greater San Diego area - and beyond! Due to the fact that we have a restricted marketing budget, we are seeking a motivated volunteer to help us with our cause, for both the short- and the long-term.
Our primary approach to evangelism is through our concert events and silent movies, but it is our desire to utilize additional methods for even greater publicity and promotion. Although this position initially starts out as an unpaid internship, there is the potential that, with proven success over a pre-determined period of time, this position may evolve into a compensated position with furthering opportunities.
Our primary goals for the immediate future are:
- INCREASE event attendance + chapter membership
- INCREASE online traffic to TOSSD.org
- ACHIEVE and/or EXCEED financial targets set for donations
- INCREASE awareness of the 'Theatre Pipe Organ' and popularize its musical genre to a larger public audience
- DETERMINE new and fresher approaches to promotion, publicity and public awareness of our chapter and its mission
Position responsibilities include:
- ASSIST with publicity/promotion/press releases to local media (radio, TV stations, online broadcasters, Craigslist, etc.)
- RESEARCH and RECOMMEND strategic partnerships/alliances with other local organizations/venues for promotional tie-ins and opportunities
- ORGANIZE and MANAGE support volunteers and guide them to successfully assist with plans/initiatives as determined
- DETERMINE additional initiatives for improving/enhancing TOSSD.org - and ultimately for driving more traffic to the website
- DETERMINE additional means of generating public interest through social websites like Facebook, Myspace, Linkedin, Twitter, etc.
- GENERATE fund-raising initiatives for achieving/exceeding financial targets for member and/or outsider gift donations
- PROMOTE and PUBLICIZE our TOSSD mission to additional new venues of opportunity and public awareness
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a charismatic and motivated volunteer whom, preferably, is a student at a local college or university and who is interested or currently majoring in Business and/or Marketing and would like to gain 'first-hand' experience in working with a non-profit organization - and with excellent opportunities to demonstrate his/her abilities in helping us achieve the aforementioned goals above.
Since we do not have centralized offices, you will be working independently on specific assignments - with face-to-face meetings and phone conferences with key management team members to discuss specific strategies and to review and assess progress on either a bi-weekly or monthly basis. We are flexible with our time requirements, and would respect your educational priorities likewise - however, the bottom line for us is RESULTS - not a set quota of hours per week or month. As long as we are making good progress together, having some fun but most of all, archieving our stated goals, this can then be a successful win/win arrangement.
General experience and qualifications, in order of priority, for the individual we are seeking are:
- A current and local (San Diego county) college student majoring in Business Administration/Marketing or an individual with similar interests and/or background who is looking to gain 'hands on' experience in working with a local non-profit organization for a mutually-beneficial partnership. Even if you aren't majoring in the specified major field, but possess an interest or passion for our cause, you are also eligible to apply!
- A reliable, organized, motivated, results-oriented individual with a strong attention-to-detail; additionally, if you have a background in piano, organ or keyboards or an interest in music or music history, this would be a huge plus!
- An individual with great people skills, and with excellent verbal/written communications
- An individual with familiarity in both traditional (print) and online (web-based) marketing strategies
- Internet-savvy with the ability to interface TOSSD.org with virtual communities and social websites (Facebook, Myspace, Linkedin, Twitter, etc.)
- General experience and/or knowledge of e-marketing and online promotional techniques
- Willing and able to provide us with an average of 5 to 10 hours a week (depending upon school workload and TOSSD events)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; HTML knowledge a plus!
- A strong interest in utilizing creative marketing approaches and modern technologies to further an historic musical instrument and charitable cause!
